alcohol detox

The detoxification process is the first and most important step in the initial recovery process because the individual’s body is cleansed of all toxins – drug, alcohol or otherwise. Many addicts and alcoholics do not want to go to treatment because they are afraid of the symptoms they will have during detox, but we are adamant that it is essential for recovery and make the process as comfortable as possible for our clients. We never advise anyone to go through drug or alcohol detox alone, as the severity of the process can be fatal if not medically supervised. We have designed the process to be as safe and comfortable as possible. If necessary individuals will be given medication as prescribed by a medical doctor.

Depending on the substance that the individual has been addicted to, the initial withdrawal stage can last for up to one week. Withdrawal symptoms may include vomiting, extreme anxiety, hyperventilation, insomnia, diarrhea, aching muscles, chills, and nausea. If the withdrawal is very severe it may include seizures, hallucinations and psychosis. During this period of time, the individual is usually alone but has 24-hour supervision by doctors and trained professionals. The team that assists in the detoxification process includes medical doctors, physician assistants, nurses, and other trained professionals with extensive experience in addiction medicine and recovery.

We are able to facilitate all types of drug and alcohol detoxification ranging from alcohol, methamphetamines, crack, cocaine, amphetamines, heroin and prescription drugs. The classic symptoms that occur during alcohol detoxification include delirium tremens (“the shakes”), nausea, chills, seizures, vomiting and abnormal sleeping and eating patterns. Once the body has rid itself of alcohol the withdrawal symptoms lessen over a few days and the individual is able to start the rehabilitation process. For drugs including crack, cocaine, and methamphetamines, the symptoms may be more severe and can include severe anxiety, extreme cravings both physical and mental, fatigue, muscle soreness and crazy, irrational thinking. In very extreme cases the withdrawal process can include psychosis. The process for crack, cocaine and amphetamine detox may take up to one week, but the initial symptoms should subside within three to five days.

We also facilitate prescription drug detox, especially from benzodiazepines and prescription narcotics, which include Xanax, Valium, Vicodin, Diazepam, Oxycontin, Ambien, Lorazepam, Hydrocodone, and others. Because prescription drugs are often heavily abused and taken in extreme quantities, the withdrawal process will differ for each individual and the detoxification process may also take up to one week. The symptoms of this withdrawal may include tremors, memory loss, physical pain such as soreness, anxiety, and seizures. We take the detoxification process very seriously and maintain strict standards to secure the safety of all of our clients. Because we are able to treat co-occuring disorders, our detox facility is one of the most effective available, diagnosing and treating both the addiction and the other psychiatric problems at the same time. If you or someone you know has a substance abuse problem and/or suffers from another psychiatric or emotional problem, please contact us today to find out more about how we can help.
