co-occuring disorder treatmentaddiction treatment center

Our residential drug program usually lasts for thirty days but can be longer or shorter depending on the severity of the problem that the individual is looking to treat. Because we do specialize in co-occurring disorder treatment, our program is more intensive because it is treating two problems at the same time. We strongly focus on the “disease” concept of drug addiction and alcoholism because it has been proven to work time and time again. From the beginning of our drug treatment process we involve our clients in individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy (if desired) as well as spiritual counseling and various extracurricular activities. With all of these treatment processes we are able to incorporate our co-occurring disorder treatment program and can treat all types of mental illnesses.

Drug Addiction Treatment

At Hope and Serenity we take each of our clients through the twelve steps in regards to their own substance abuse problem. Our staff is accustomed to being able to help people with varying levels of addiction from the very initial stages of misuse all the way to chronic, nearly fatal addiction. Because we are a dual-diagnosis treatment center we emphasize the problems of alcoholism and drug addiction as symptoms of greater underlying problems. Often times alcohol and drug use are just an experimental phase of adolescence or early adulthood, and first time use can be attributed to peer pressure or trying to fit in. Becoming addicted to something can be defined as the point at which a person is no longer to control his or herself when it comes to drugs or alcohol.

The residential drug addiciton treatment program involves an intensive self-examination through individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy and twelve step meetings and work. Individual therapy involves working with a licensed Clinical Psychologist to uncover the issues or reasons for which a person relies on alcohol or drugs as a solution. Some of the most common issues behind addiction include depression, anxiety, anger and low self-esteem which can stem from a variety of things such as childhood problems, divorce, parents or family members with addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), abusive relationships and lack of structure or positive reinforcement. The therapist works with the individual through writing assignments and counseling to figure out the best drug treatment process.

Group therapy is usually done with the entire community or in small groups and works to attain both communal and individual accountability. By taking issues into a group of people with similar problems or issues, it helps individuals realize that they are not all that unique and that they can resolve their issues instead of looking for someone to blame or a reason to continue their cycle of addiction. Within the process of group therapy, alcoholics and addicts are able to resolve issues and modify their belief systems to be less self-destructive. Additionally, group therapy can help individuals increase their self-esteem and find more positive ways to deal with their problems. The twelve-step process is involved in all of our residential treatment program activities and all of our clients work the twelve steps, attend meetings, find a sponsor and practice the principles and values that are found within the steps. We have found this to be the most effective and successful way to sustain long-term sobriety.
